Completely Red - 1978 Topps

Today's addition to the Completely Red series is 1978 Topps. Good looking set, in Red Cardboard's opinion. I like the script team name. The yellow frame bothers me a bit. The set feels older than it is, if that makes any sense. The set is lacking in action shots, at least for the Reds cards. Tons of stars in this set though, which makes it great. Six rookie cards, including Mario Soto and Ray Knight, two of Cincinnati's favorites. A special shout-out to Pete Rose's haircut, which is barely able to be contained by his batting helmet, an apparent theme of the late 70's Reds team.

RC's - 6 (Soto, Capilla, Knight, Hume, Werner, Revering)

All Stars - 14 (Rose x2, Billingham, Griffey, Concepcion, Foster x3, Morgan, Soto, Seaver, Knight, Bench, Hume)

  1. I wouldn't complain too much about the yellow frame, not when other teams got stuck with pink, green, brown or purple.

I've always been amused by Bill Bonham's thinly-disguised Cubs hat.
