The Greatest Thing I've Ever Received in a Trade Package

It would be very peculiar if you are bouncing around card blogs and don't know Gavin over at Baseball Card Breakdown. I needed customs for some Hall of Famers that either have zero cards (astoundingly) or have so few that they never appear anywhere for sale.

Specifically, I was in need of these 11 fellas: Ben Taylor, Ray Brown, Frank Grant, Bill Foster, Andy Cooper, and Hilton Smith (all Negro Leaguers), Cumberland Posey, J.L. Wilkinson, Barney Dreyfuss, and Alex Pompez (all owners), and Frank Selee (old-timey manager). I unloaded some '64 Topps. Gavin unloaded these bomb-ass customs:

Dig that 'stache on Selee! Are these Conlon knockoffs? NO SIR. Conlon is a Gavin ripoff.

Who are these people, you ask? G-Sizzle has you covered, with write-ups on the backs:

Boom. These are the first 11 in what Gavin says could be a continuing living set of Neglected Hall of Famers, if you sweet-talk him enough into making more. I will cherish these always. Sliding these into the missing slots in my HoF binder has been heavenly. HEAVENLY.

A thousand thank yous, brother.

Go Reds.

P.S. There was one other card in the trade package. It is for another day. It deserves its own post.

  1. These are fantastic, I'm running out of adjectives to describe Gavin's work. But you nailed it: Conlon is a Gavin rip-off!

    Nice work, G-sizzle!

  2. Yeah, I hope to persuade Gavin later this summer to make a second print run of the same cards for my HOF binder.
    He does such nice work!

  6. Conlon rules. Gavin rules. And those customs definitely rule.

Also, Frank Grant does have a card in one of the Tristar Obak sets -- if I'm remembering right, it actually features the same photo Gavin chose, only without the logos.
