First up, kudos to COMC for shipping all the Black Friday goodies wicked fast. Faster than I've received anything from them before, in fact. Ordered a bunch of stuff Thanksgiving morning and they were in my mailbox on Wednesday. Nice.
I don't know how long I'm gonna spread these out. All I know is one card I bought deserves its own post:
1909 T206 White Border Larry McLean. Oh. Man.
It's off-center and I don't even care. Of all my T206's, this is the coolest. That catcher's apron looks totally fly.
As for Mr. McLean: 13 years in the bigs (1901, 1903-4, 1906-1915), 7 of which were in Cincy. Nothing much to speak of, career-wise, but he did receive one Hall of Fame vote (surely as a lark). He holds the record for tallest catcher of all-time at 6'5. And he was shot to death by a bartender during a brawl in 1921. Goodness.
As for the collection: This is my ninth Red T206. There are 23 total, Maybe someday. Maybe someday.
Go Reds.
Nice card... Worth it just for the "shot to death by a bartender" part.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your haul. I was going to whine about my COMC package still being in transit, but then I saw how you finished up on Thanksgiving. I spent the whole weekend shopping and didn't click on "send" until Monday.
Usually when I buy at some random time, it takes two weeks from payment to mailbox.
DeleteI am not worthy of looking at that beautiful piece of art. Wow.
ReplyDeleteGreat cardd
