All-Rookie Rotation

I don't know if you people are aware, but as of right now, due to injuries and rebuilding-inspired trades, my Reds are currently fielding an all-rookie starting rotation. My Google-fu is failing me as to how often this has happened, but I can't imagine this is terribly common. It may even be the first time.

I should point out that everyone technically qualifies as a rookie. Holmberg and Desclafani have pitched a grand total of 66.2 major league innings before this season. Here's the rundown.

Michael Lorenzen (drafted in 2013 by the Reds)
2015 Stats: 16 starts, 89.1 IP, 64 K's, 4.84 ERA, 3-7 record
Pre-2015 Experience: 0 IP in the majors, 160.2 IP in the minors over 2 seasons

David Holmberg (drafted in 2009 by the White Sox)
2015 Stats: 2 starts, 11 IP, 7 K's, 3.27 ERA, 1-0 record
Pre-2015 Experience: 33.2 IP in the majors, 803.2 IP in the minors over 7 seasons

Anthony "Disco" Desclafani (drafted in 2011 by the Blue Jays)
2015 Stats: 22 starts, 132 IP, 98 K's, 3.75 ERA, 7-7 record
Pre-2014 Experience: 33 IP in the majors, 354.1 IP in the minors over 3 seasons

Raisel Iglesias (signed out of Cuba in 2014 by the Reds)
2015 Stats: 9 starts, 53.1 IP, 53 K's, 4.73 ERA, 2-4 record
Pre-2015 experience: 0 IP in the majors, 36 IP in the minors over 2 seasons, 223.1 IP in Cuba over 3 seasons

Keyvius Sampson (drafted in 2009 by the Padres) (no Reds cards exist)
2015 Stats: 2 starts, 12 IP, 12 K's, 3.00 ERA, 1-1 record
Pre-2015 experience: 0 IP in the majors, 607 IP in the minors over 7 seasons

  1. I think the A's in 2012 had 5 Rookies in the Rotation all at once, in 2012:
    Jarrod Parker
    Travis Blackley
    A.J. Griffin
    Dan Straily
    Tom Milone

And of course all the Cincinnati Reds' Pitchers in 1876 were technically MLB rookies....

    1. I thought of that, but I'm guessing the "rotation" way back then was one dude named "Big Country" or "Hoss" barn-storming 50 innings a week.
