Quick one today. There were so many cards in the early 90's that even retired baseball players were releasing sets. Ted Williams Co. produced a couple of decent releases that didn't catch on very well, if I recall correctly, but were pretty nice. Teddy Ballgame was allegedly involved in player selection, but who knows if that's true. I bet his selections just happened to coincide with licensing rights, a stroke of kismet indeed. It doesn't really take a statistical wizard to choose Bench, Morgan, and Foster for a set, though.
STATS:
Cards - 3
All Stars - 3
Hall of Famers - 2 (Bench, Morgan)
Reds Hall of Famers - 3
Checklist:
28 Johnny Bench
29 George Foster
30 Joe Morgan
Go Reds.
I've always loved the design of the Ted Williams sets - they look so much better, artistic even, than the haphazard and "throw everything at it" sort of layouts we saw in the 90's.
ReplyDeleteI was a big fan of this set. I bought enough packs back then to put the set together and have plenty of extras. I even got that George Foster card signed a few years after its release.
