Get To Know Your Reds: Part 19 - Rocky Bridges

According to Baseball Reference there have been 1,891 different players who got into a major league game as a Cincinnati Red/Red Stocking/Redleg as of the end of the 2014 season. So I threw them all into a randomizer and off we go.

Drafted: 1947 by the Dodgers
Debut: 1951 with the Dodgers
Reds Debut: 1953, acquired via trade
Reds Stats: 5 seasons at IF, 346 games, 756 PA, 2 HR, 42 RBI, .241/.306/.283

Final season: 1961, with the Angels





Played for the Dodgers, Reds, Senators, Tigers, Indians, Cardinals, Angels.
All Star for the Senators, 1958.
Third base coach for the Angels for six seasons and for the Giants for one.
Won over 1,300 games over 21 seasons as a minor league manager for the Angels, Giants, Padres, and Pirates.



On why he mostly rode the bench for five seasons in Cincinnati: "It took me that long to learn how to spell it."
On his lone All Star appearance: "I never got in the game, but I sat on the bench with Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, and Yogi Berra. I gave 'em instruction on how to sit."
On the first minor league team he managed: "I managed good, but boy did they play bad."
