1948 R346 Blue Tint #46 Johnny Vander Meer

I snagged this on the 'Bay for no other reason than I'd never seen this set before. My collection is quite lacking in the vintage Vander Meer department (this is only my second, to go with 18 modern cards), so this was a welcome addition.

It's cataloged as "1948 R346 Blue Tint", a 48-card, blank-backed set released in strips of eight cards. Some players in the set, based on their teams, potentially date some of the cards as 1947 and 1949 as well. Strip cards seemed to be a dying medium by the 40's due to improved printing methods, so these probably weren't terribly popular. They are listed as 'scarce', based on who knows what. They're about 2" wide and 2.5" tall. And they (whoever 'they' are, as the issuer seems to have been lost in the sands of time) decided to spell 'Johnny' with an 'IE'. Sure, why not.

Decent pickup. Go Reds.

  1. Don't see these around to often. I snagged the T.Williams a few years back. Don't know much else about the set either
