Late to the Party: 2014 Topps Update

Finally got in the Update action. I know many of you find Update unnecessary at worst, and watered down at best. But i like it. I like having cards of new guys. One can only tolerate so many Vottos. I need me some Brayan Penas and Tucker Barnharts.

Ok, I will admit to one baffling notion. Alfredo Simon and Ramon Santiago already had a base card in Series 1/2. So why bring them into Update? What exactly is being updated? Now, Soto, Bernadina, Barnhart, and Pena all contributed to the season and weren't in Series 1/2, so hell yeah throw those guys in. Ah well. That new Santiago is a pretty great card. And I'm always happy to get some Update All Star love. Cincy didn't exactly pile up the All Star roster in the 2000's, so this nice run in the 2010's has been welcome. Not in the All Star subset, but on the All Star roster: Johnny Cueto and Alfredo Simon.

Snagged a couple Golds, because I got to.

And a partial rainbow of Mesoraco. Not the most interesting card, but it honors his breakout season and I've never sprung for a Topps Black before (numbered out of 63). So I sprung for the Gold and Red Foil as well. Good lookin.

Now it's time to wait in eager anticipation of the 2015 flagship. My, how vicious the cycle.

Go Reds.
