Vintage Oddball Week, Part 1: Nicotine and Nitrates

Vintage = clickbait. Oddballs = clickbait. Vintage oddballs = holy shite so much clickbait!!!!!

Yeah that's right. I'm being shameless all week by showcasing everyone's favorite subcategory. I will clarify that vintage, to me and most, is 1979 and earlier. I will also note that I don't consider anything before 1950 an oddball since everything before 1950 is pretty odd, and if we're all special, unique snowflakes then none of us are, ya dig?

Today we're going big. As in oversized. 1950's Red Man Tobacco and 1960's Kahn's Wieners.

1952 Red Man Ewell Blackwell. Awesomely bright colors. Cool background. Reds Hall of Famer.

1953 Red Man Bobby Adams. They abandoned the background in favor of highlighter yellow and a faint aura around the player. Shame.

1953 Red Man Ted Kluszewski. Is that crease noticeable? I don't think it is.

1955 Red Man Gus Bell. Ah, they brought back the grandstands. So much better. I love these cards. I have 4 of 8 Reds printed over the four year run. If it wasn't against my rules to set specific goals, completing this set would be high on the list.

1960 Kahn's Gus Bell. Some wiener leakage caused this card to stick to the packaging, I presume. Did I just win the 'First Card Blogger to Mention Wiener Leakage' award? I think so.

1963 Kahn's Don Blasingame. These cards seem way older than 1960's, don't they?

1963 Kahn's Gordy Coleman. This wiener has a bend in it.

1964 Kahn's Bob Purkey. Oh man. Full color wiener. So much more lovely!

Part 2 tomorrow, kiddies. Go Reds.

  1. Wow, in 1955 Gus Bell looked like an epic god damn hero but five years later he got a bit goofy.

    1. Well, he went from being in his 20's to in his 30's. I think that transition you described is pretty universal.

  2. Great cards... The redmans are an alltime favorite of mine. Completed the Sox sets a while ago. The T. Williams was a tough one.... Had to pick up one Kahns card. Found a 65 Luis Tiant. Very underrated set.

    1. Yeah, love the Kahn's. And I don't even want to know what a Ted Williams Red Man goes for.
