The 100 Superstars and 100 Rising Stars were released as complete sets in 1991. Each could be purchased with a special binder with brief bios on each player. The design seems a bit dated for '91. It's very similar to many of Fleers extracurricular releases of the 80's. Very boxy. Heavy on the bold, crayola 8-pack colors. Despite my towering stacks of 1991 cards from my youth, I had never seen these until a Sportlots package from a year ago, or so.
My Reds grabbed more than their share of Superstars, with six, but only managed two Rising Stars. Coming off the World Series win/MVP, I'm surprised Jose Rijo didn't make the cut.
