1911 t205 Gold Border Mike Mitchell

Recently went to the big quarterly show in Columbus. It moved venues, and was relegated to the smaller room for the time being, which was annoying. The usual 100 tables was cut to 60, and damn it was crowded. I'll post the entire haul at some point, but for now, I'm highlighting the best card I snagged.

These were the successors to the famous t206 set. They were one of the first, if not the first, to offer a bio and stats on the back as well as a facsimile signature. This is my second Red from the set and my tenth tobacco card overall.

Mike Mitchell enjoyed an 8 year major league career, the first 6 with Cincy, followed by stops in Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Washington. He hit .278 lifetime and lead the NL in triples twice. According to Sabermetricians, he had the best outfield arm of his day, for what it's worth.

Only 9 more to go for the team set! Any minute now.

Go Reds.

  2. I'm glad they don't put cards in cigarette packs anymore. I would have died of lung cancer before I reached puberty if they did.

    Sweet card.
