1960 Kahn's Reds #3 Gus Bell

Another vintage wiener pickup for yours truly, my 4th such card. These are oversized at about 3 in x 4 in and were stuffed in packages of hot dogs in the 50's and 60's in the 3 or 4 states Kahn's sold to. And it features my all-time favorite phrase on a baseball card, "The Wiener the World Awaited." Because I'm an immature man-child.

As for Gus Bell, he's a 4-time All Star, a Reds Hall of Famer, father to former Red Buddy Bell, and grandfather to former Red Mike Bell and 12-year veteran David Bell.

As for the back, a few things: 1) When exactly did fielding percentage fall out of favor as a go-to stat? 2) It's interesting that the player's ancestry and marital status are included. I can't decide if this is merely quaint or a remnant of when we were still wary of someone's heritage. 3) Nice All Star Game home run in '54 to break up a potential line of zeroes.

Go Reds.
