COMC Smackdown: Part 1/2 - Vintage

First up, check out the Mega Contest Results and claim your prizes. DO IT.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's been a long while since I've hit up COMC for some goodness. It needed to be done. The package included 15 vintage goodies. And here they are.

No better way to starts than with '75 Topps Minis. Two Reds Hall of Famers here, in Griffey and Borbon. I'm nearing the point where I'm only missing higher-end minis, of which the Reds have many.

Here's a true vintage oddball. A 1968 Atlantic Oil Play Ball Contest Milt Pappas. These were released as two-card panels at gas stations, of varying rarity. Certain combos could win you some cash. If I find 'Player Number 11' from the National League, I can go back to 1968 and redeem them for one dollar. Oh yeah. Also, take a note, Panini. Embrace the logo-free caps. Stop cutting the tops of heads off.

1976 Kellogg's Ken Griffey, Joe Morgan. Suh-weet.

1966 Topps Jim O'Toole. I have a copy of this card signed, so I needed a replacement for the flagship base card binders. Hey, what's up vintage Topps pitcher pose?

1960 Leaf Bob Purkey. With all the color sets bouncing around, I can't imagine this set was very popular. I don't particularly care for it. But it was cheap.

Boring, old Topps base cards? Don't you already have these, Red Cardboard?

Boom. O-Pee-Chee. Why do I love acquiring O-Pee-Chee so much? Because I like saying 'O-Pee-Chee'? Probably.

1979 O-Pee-Chee Johnny Bench. Here's where the 'Chee decided to be proud of their name and stamp it on the front. Good job, O-Pee.

1961 Post Vada Pinson. I somehow had the Post Canadian version of Pinson, but not the 'Murican version. Remedied.

Part 2 - Modern Goodness will be up tomorrow. Go Reds.

  2. I sold a 1979 OPC Johnny Bench on COMC just last month. Maybe you bought my card... that's almost like making a trade. :-)

    2. Awesome! I like to know that my cards find a good home, and aren't just going to some who's looking to resell it.

For what it's worth, I bought a cheap wax box of 1979 OPC back in the early 1980's, and never really knew what to do with them after I busted the wax. Johnny B. is from that box. One owner! Low mileage!

    3. First baseball cards I ever bought were 1979 OPC. Will always have a soft spot for that set.
