One and Done: 1971-1980

This is the eleventh part of my running theme, unimaginatively dubbed 'One and Done'. Here, I focus on cards of Reds players who, whether it be their only year in the bigs or their only year with the club, found themselves on the Cincinnati roster for only one season, yet long enough to sneak onto a card donning the Cincinnati red. That was a very convoluted sentence that I am choosing not to edit.

Today we're looking at 1971-1980. This ten year run saw only 27 players spend their only year with the reds (5, 3, 5, 3, 1, 1, 4, 1, 2, and 2, respectively). And since these were the Big Red Machine years, there was way too much star power elsewhere on the team for most of them to earn a card, so my collection only has 8 of em.

Greg Garrett. 2 year career with the Angels then the Reds.

With the Reds: 1971, 8.2 IP in 1 start and 1 relief appearance, 2 K's, 1.04 ERA, 0-1 record.

"Wonderful" Willie Smith. 9 year career with the Tigers (as a pitcher), Angels, Indians, Cubs, then Reds.

With the Reds: 1971, 58 PA in 31 games, 1 HR, 4 RBI, .164 BA.

Ted Uhlaender. 8 year career with the Twins, Indians, then Reds.

With the Reds: 1972, 128 PA in 73 games, 6 RBI, .159 BA.

Larry Stahl. 10 year career with the A's, Mets, Padres, then Reds.

With the Reds: 1972, 127 PA in 76 games, 2 HR, 12 RBI, .225 BA.

Bob Barton. 10 year career with the Giants, Padres, Reds, then Padres again.

With the Reds: 1973, 2 PA in 3 games with a walk.

John Vukovich. 10 year career with the Phillies, Brewers, Reds, then Phillies again. 6-5 as a manager. Member of the Phillies Hall of Fame due to his coaching tenure.

With the Reds: 1975, 46 PA in 31 games, 2 RBI, .221 BA.

Paul "Motormouth" Blair. 17 year career with the Orioles, Yankees, Reds, then Yankees again. 2x All Star, 8x Gold Glove, League Leader triples in 1967.

With the Reds: 1979, 155 PA in 75 games, 2 HR, 15 RBI, .150 BA.

Sheldon Burnside. 3 year career with the Tigers then Reds.

With the Reds: 1980, 4.2 IP in 7 games, 2 K's, 1.93 ERA, 1-0 record.
