Completely Red: 1987 Donruss Opening Day

In what is now a mainstay of the flagship, this 1987 release by Donruss was the first set from any brand dubbed "Opening Day". The set consisted of the 9 (NL) or 10 (AL) players from each team that actually started their respective Opening Day games, and not just a set of stars released in early April. Under no circumstances would this be done today. Also included were team logo cards.

The set includes 9 Reds, plus the logo card, including 7 once-All-Stars (which would result in a 2nd place finish) and a sneaky Barry Larkin RC.

STATS:

Cards - 10

RC's - 1 (Barry Larkin)

All Stars - 7 (Bo Diaz, Barry Larkin, Terry Francona, Tom Browning, Buddy Bell, Eric Davis, Dave Parker)

Hall of Famers - 1 (Barry Larkin)

Reds Hall of Famers - 3 (Eric Davis, Tom Browning, Barry Larkin)

  1. Add Oester and Parker to your list of Reds Hall of Famers...induction is not until this summer, but they have been announced as part of the Class of 2014.
