As posted yesterday, I went north of 100 new babies on Sportlots, broken into three posts.
Today, we'll look at the minor leaguers I nabbed. Yes, I count minor league cards in my Reds cannon. Even if the players never made it out, I still collect em. Plus, it pads my 'Other' binder. First up, is 1992-1993 Fleer Excel.
Chad Fox, Princeton Reds (Rookie League) - 10 year major league career
Demetrish Jenkins, Billings Mustangs (Rookie League) - Never made the majors
Jason Jummerfeldt, Billings Mustangs (Rookie League) - Never made the majors
Calvin Reese, Charleston Wheelers (A) - 8 year major league career
John Roper, Chattanooga Lookouts (AA) - 3 year major league career
Jerry Spradlin, Chattanooga Lookouts (AA) - 7 year major league career
Next, 1993-1994 Fleer Excel, a much better quality card.
Jamie Dismuke, Chattanooga Lookouts (AA) - Never made the majos
Cleveland Ladell, Winston-Salem Spirits (A+) - Never made the majors
Eric Owens, Winston-Salem Spirits (A+) - 9 year major league career
Scott Sullivan, Billings Mustangs (Rookie League) - 10 year major league career
Pat Watkins, Billings Mustangs (Rookie League) - 3 year major league career
1994 Upper Deck Minors:
Chris Sexton, Charleston Wheelers (A) - 2 year major league career
Eric Owens, Winston-Salem Spirits (A+) - 9 year major league career

1991, 1992 Classic:
Tom Raffo, Charleston Wheelers (A) - Never made the majors
Steve Vondran, Cedar Rapids Reds (A) - Never made the majors
Calvin Reese, Princeton Reds (Rookie League) - 8 year major league career
Todd Etler, Princeton Reds (Rookie League) - Never made the majors
Rick Magdeleno, Charleston Wheelers (A) - Never made the majors (spelling error card, fyi)
1994 Classic Gold, 1995 Upper Deck Minors:
Chad Mottola, Winston-Salem Spirits (A+) - 5 year major league career
Louis Maberry, Charleston Wheelers (A) - Never made the majors
Pat Watkins, Winston Salem Spirits (A+) - 3 year major league career
Danny Clyburn, Winston Salem Spirits (A+) - 3 year major league career
And closing it off with some CURRENT players from 2013 Topps Pro Debut:
Robert Stephenson, Dayton Dragons (A) - currently with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (AA)
Nick Travieso, AZL Reds (Rookie League) - currently with the Dayton Dragons (A)
Billy Hamilton, Pensacola Blue Wahoos (AA) - currently, well, if you don't know of Billy Hamilton, get your shit together.
Go Reds.
I like adding minor league team sets and pack releases. Sure, you end up with a ton of scrubs who never made it out of low A ball. But it's also cool to see players progress through the minors in the seasons before the hit the bigs.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. Also, better team names.
Delete...and sometimes better player names. I recently picked up a 2013 Pro Debut card of Rock Shoulders, winner of Minor League Baseball's "Moniker Madness" competition in 2012.
DeleteI'm just waiting for this year's winner, Sicnarf Loopstok, to come out in a nationally-distributed set.
Jose Jose should've won that.
