Columbus, Ohio Vet Show - Part 4 of 4 - Best of the Rest

Kudos to all you kiddies who've made it this far. Three full days of vintage and dime box goodness. We had Vintage and 2013's in Part 1, Griffeypalooza in Part 2, and Larkinmania in Part 3. I nabbed a hundred or so more dime boxers, and I won't be posting them all. That's just silly. But I have some favorites for today's post, which will put to bed the Show. I'm pretty pleased with my haul. Let's start small...

With some Ginter minis. And a 206 mini Bench, which looks nice. We're rockin' Johnny Bench, Ryan Freel, Edwin Encarnacion, Aaron Harang, and Francisco Cordero. All solid pickups. Speaking of Bench...

A nice serial numbered Johnny. From 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes, with Ivan Rodriguez, and serialed out of 199. I've said it many times on this blog. I love UDBH. And there are tons of parallels. For this card I believe I have the yellow (?) base, the black, the brown, the red, and now the dark blue. There's still light blue, and I think maybe fuchsia, periwinkle, argyle, clear, salmon, sandalwood, and ultraviolet. I could be wrong about those. Moving on...

A slurry of Upper Deck Legends Timeless Teams portraying all the great Reds of the 1970's. What's nice about these is seeing the Reds from that decade who usually don't get modern set love. The 70's Reds are so deep with all-timers (Rose, Bench, Griffey, Foster, Concepcion, Morgan, Perez) that some really good players just can't make the cut. Here we get some card love from the likes of Rawley Eastwick, Ray Knight, Pedro Borbon, and Don Gullett alongside Dave Concepcion, George Foster, Ken Griffey, and Tom Seaver. Just an excellent set here. Glad I found so many. Next up...

Bowman Sterling Cody Strait and BJ Szymanski. Bowman Sterling make some solid cards. They really stand out in the binder. So I thought they deserved a portion of this post. Más!...

Refractors. Soooooo shiiiiiiney...

Here's another set I love. SP Legendary Legends. My favorite design of all of them. The script and border look really sweet with the black and white photos of the legends of yore. We have Ernie Lombardi (NL MVP 1938), Johnny Vander Meer (Back-to-back No-Hitters), Ken Griffey (Big Red Machine, son), and Bucky Walters (NL MVP 1939). Excellent. Más!...

Some various goodies. Deion Sanders Leaf Fractal Matrix (whatever that means), Matt Klinker Bowman International, Devin Mesoraco Bowman Topps 100, Didi Gregorius Elite Extra, Joey Votto UD First Pitch, Sean Casey EX, Johnny Bench Century Moments, Jay Bruce UD Icons, Jay Bruce Topps 1987 mini (the last I need of the set). Whew. Keep on truckin'...

Piles and piles of Bowman chromies. Not much to say. Workin' hard on all the Chrome sets. It'll happen eventually. Almost there...

A Noochie Varner Game Used Bat card. My only relic card of the show. The price was too low to pass up. And I had no Noochie mem cards, because, you know, who does? But hey. You grace the Red uni, I'll collect ya. Alrighty, last card of the post bonanza...

1986 Donruss Paul O'Neill Rookie. There was a glaring hole in my 1980's Donruss binder. O'Neill RC's are still in high demand, and I could never pull the trigger. Just can't justify paying any real money (real meaning one dollar) for 1980's Donruss. Lo and behold, a Paul O'Neill RC in a dime box. Patience pays off, kids. Patience pays off.

Man, what a great show. Looking forward to the summer Vet show (what a spoiled brat I am, already itching for the next toys when I should be happy with the current ones). Ah well. Til tomorrow, Go Reds (and a special Go Reds to Devin Mesoraco and Shin-Soo Choo for going back-to-back yard bottom of the ninth to beat the Braves 5-4 last night). Choo should be getting A-Rod money.

  1. I'm hoping to land a cheap Noochie Varner at the upsoming card show this weekend. It'sgoing straight into my "Goofy Names" binder.

    1. Definitely a good find. I didn't have the full size, so I'd never seen the photo before.
